POST 119: THE MORRISON GOVERNMENT ARE CONSIDERING INCREASING VISAS FOR AFGHAN NATIONALS

The Federal government are looking at lifting the cap on the number of visas offered to Afghanistan nationals.

Three thousand places were allocated when Afghanistan fell to the Taliban.

The government have received another 26,000 visa applications.

Islamic fundamentalist group the Taliban, ruled Afghanistan until the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.

The Taliban returned to power in 2021 after regrouping in Pakistan and waging an insurgency against the U.S.-backed government in Kabul.

The Morrison government must maintain the Afghan visa cap.

The warning signs are there. The USA government has already flagged 44 Afghan evacuees as potential national security risk.
